About Mary Kate Bolinder

Mary Kate Bolinder is a children’s writer based in Philadelphia, PA. A lifelong lover of picture books, Mary Kate’s stories are inspired by the little magic moments of every day. As a certified elementary and special education teacher, Mary Kate pulls from her knowledge of early literacy skills to create stories that are accessible and enjoyable for the youngest of readers.

Awards

Mary Kate’s 2019 picture book manuscript, CITY BLOCK ROCK, was a shortlisted selection in the Open IDEO Early Childhood Book Challenge. CITY BLOCK ROCK is a book that “Excites and educates caregivers about the opportunities and importance of reading, singing, and talking together, to support early language development.”

CITY BLOCK ROCK is still searching for a publishing home, but you can read the story in prototype form on the Open IDEO website. (Spec art done by the amazingly talented James Firnhaber).
